The details

Anatomy of a crypto fee

Three costs decide whether a trade is worth it. The trading fee is the number the exchange advertises — usually 0.08% to 0.60% per side on a spot venue. The spread is the hidden markup between the best bid and the best ask; it is effectively paid on every market order even when the commission looks tiny. And transfer costs — deposit fees, withdrawal fees and network gas — sit outside the trade entirely.

For an active trader, the spread usually matters more than the commission tier. For a long-term holder who moves assets once a quarter, a flat withdrawal fee can dominate. That is why this calculator separates the one-off and recurring costs instead of showing a single headline percentage.

How to lower the total

  • Use a limit order where possible: you avoid crossing the spread and sometimes pay a lower maker fee.
  • Compare the effective rate, not just the taker fee. A 0.10% fee with a 0.10% spread costs more than 0.15% with a 0.01% spread.
  • Batch withdrawals. A flat network fee hits a $200 transfer far harder than a $5,000 one.
  • Check whether a free bank deposit is available before paying a card on-ramp fee.

Questions

Fee calculator FAQ

What counts as an all-in trading cost?
The trading fee charged by the venue, the spread between the best bid and ask, any deposit or on-ramp fee, and the network or withdrawal fee. Taxes are separate, and slippage on large orders can be larger than all of these.
Why double the trading fee?
A round trip is a buy and a sell. Each side pays the fee and crosses the spread, so the default result covers two executions. If you are only pricing one side, halve the round-trip figure.
Is 0.10% really what I will pay?
That is a common base taker tier at large venues, before discounts. Your actual rate depends on 30-day volume, the pair, payment method and any loyalty tier. Check the venue's current schedule; small exchanges often add withdrawal fees.
Does the calculator include taxes?
No. Tax treatment depends on your jurisdiction and holding period. The calculator is for trading and transfer costs only; tax software is a separate cost.
